| The Strom Thurmond Institute was created on October 29, 1981, when Senator Thurmond announced his decision to place at Clemson University, his alma mater, the papers and memorabilia spanning his more than 65 years of public service. In his honor STI was developed to be the flagship public policy research center within the university. STI carries on its mission by serving business, government, and community constituents through objective research, outstanding graduate education, and public service programs for the state and region. |
